BVE Download and Installation

BVE Download and Installation

To download BVE, visit the official website: http://mackoy.cool.ne.jp/

For full English language instructions, with screen shots, detailing how to download and install the software, you can use the excellent guides in the BVE help sections at the following sites: Rail Sim Routes UK and Train Sim Central

However, if you really want to go it alone, the official site is Japanese, but navigation is fairly straight forward and each of the downloads and the installation steps are actually written on different pages, which can be accessed via an English menu on the left of the screen. When you access the site, look for the screen shot on the left of the main page. Above it, is the word 'Get'. Click on either this word, or the screen shot to go to the download pages.

For a complete installation, download the main program (obviously) plus the default train & route pack (Uchibo). You'll also need the file called 'String.ini', which may be found by clicking the 'String Table' link on the menu on the left of the download pages.

To help, you can use a translation service such as the ones provided by Excite and AltaVista...

Excite http://www.excite.co.jp/world/url Enter the URL of the official BVE website (http://mackoy.cool.ne.jp/), click the radio button on the right, and hit the large rectangular button to translate the site.
AltaVista http://uk.altavista.com/babelfish/tr Enter the URL as before (http://mackoy.cool.ne.jp/) in the 'Translate a website' text box, and select 'Japanese to English' from the drop-down list box, then hit the rectangular 'Translate' button.

Please note that the download links may not work on translated pages. Therefore, it may be necessary to open the original (without translation) in a seperate window, and mirror your actions in the other window.

Troubleshooting and Help

Help with troubleshooting may be found by posting the issue on the BVE section of the 'Train-sim.com Rail Software' forum: http://www.train-sim.com/cgi/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=list&forum=DCForumID17&conf=DCConfID1 (Membership is free and is also required.)

A couple of tips before actually posting... Try searching through the archives at the forum - chances are, your problem has already been covered! :o)

You could also try the BVE Yahoo! Group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BVE/

Due to flaming and abuse by certain members, the BVE section of the 'Trainsim UK & Crotrainz' Rail Software Forum is no longer available.
