A guide to the
settings found in the train editor was created by Shaun Myers
and is available to download from Wulf's 'Saxon Locomotive Works':
http://www.zodiac-infosystems.co.uk/rail/bve/
For guides on downloading, installing and troubleshooting, check out the following sites... Train Sim Central (www.trainsimcentral.co.uk) - Steve Green's Train Sim Central (Help section) features an up to date guide on downloading and installing BVE. The site also hosts a large collection of excellent routes and trains for the program. Rail Sim Routes UK (www.railsimroutes.co.uk) - Anthony Bowden's 'Rail Sim Routes UK' features a guide on downloading and installing BVE, with extra instructions on downloading and installing one of Anthony's superb routes and trains. Anthony's site also contains the BVE Track and Sound Standard (BVETSS), plus, the BVE Developers Guidelines. |
For information about getting started in developing for BVE, you could look over the excellent tutorials at the following sites... Alfred Barten's 'BVE Works In Progress' - Alfred Barten's website is an excellent resource for BVE, with sections on route building, creating objects, hints and tips and a regularly updated list of links to every site with something to offer for BVE. BVE Helper Website - Brett William's website with illustrated instructions on downloading, installing and running BVE (A bit out of date now though). Also, a short tutorial on route construction. |
1. BVE-Routes (www.bve-routes.com) - Uwe Post's, BVE-Routes website, has details of an exciting new route editor that is currently being developed. Also, the site contains a huge database with details on the routes currently available for BVE. 2. BVE Routes (www.bveroutes.com) - James' (Maglo) BVE Site, where you can dowload his excellent text-based BVE Route Editor. The site also contains a route database, and a technical section with frequently asked questions and answers. |
Paint Shop Pro (www.jasc.com) - An evaluation version of Paint Shop Pro, for image editing, can be downloaded from the JASC Software Inc. website. Goldwave (www.goldwave.com) - An evaluation version of Goldwave, for sound editing, can be downloaded from the Goldwave Inc. website. |

Miscellaneous |
The default signal bitmaps supplied with BVE are designed for Japanese railways, however it is possible to replace these, and you can download the 'Remastered BR Colour Light Signals' from the 'Routes' section of Steve Green's, Train Sim Central: www.trainsimcentral.co.uk
For a guide to what those signals actually mean, I'd recommend checking out the 'Trackside Sign Recognition' section at Alan Lee's superb Jubilee Line website: http://www.jubileeline.org.uk This excellent guide also helps to explain the meaning of many of the signs seen throughout the British railway network!
An excellent utility that allows a user to automatically switch between signals used in different countries, 'Signal Installer', can be downloaded from the 'Download/Sonstiges' section of the 'BVE-Train.de' website belonging to Martin Finken & Peter Schötz: http://bve-train.de/
Troubleshooting and Help |
Help with troubleshooting may be found by posting the issue on the BVE section of the 'Trainsim UK & Crotrainz' Rail Software Forum: http://www.crotrainz.com/cgi-bin/forum/board.pl (Membership is required to post, but it's free.)
A couple of tips before actually posting... Please read the Forum Charter (http://www.trainsim.org.uk/charter.html), and try searching through the archives at the forum - chances are, your problem has already been covered! :o)
You could also try the BVE Yahoo! Group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BVE/
