Train Editor

The Train Editor allows a developer to define the acceleration and braking performance of a train, as well as features such as the type of brakes fitted to the train, and the relevant parameters associated with a particular system. It is also possible to define other parameters including the weight and length of the train, plus the number of vehicles in a consist.

The motor/engine sounds are configured using this editor as well, and 'tread' braking effects can be implemented also.

The Train Editor is one program that is not available from the official BVE website ready for use on English based systems. However, a translated version of the editor can be downloaded from Paul Woozely's website, BVE Fan: http://bve_fan.tripod.com/bvefan/index.html

A guide to the Train Editor, created by Shaun Myers, is available to download from Wulf's 'Saxon Locomotive Works': http://www.zodiac-infosystems.co.uk/rail/bve/

B3D-CSV Convertor

Objects used in BVE routes were once saved with '.B3D' extensions. At the same time, routes were saved with the extension: .RW (for 'railway').

Well, after a time, this standard was superceded by another standard: Comma Seperated Values (CSV) I won't try to explain what this is... enough said! :o) Anyway. There were a lot of changes to the way things are coded when this was introduced and many new features (commands) were added as well. There are differences between the formatting of the 'b3d' and 'csv' commands, and differences in the commands themselves, so to save time converting old to new, the author of BVE developed this small utility to convert object files automatically.

It's a drag-n-drop utility - you drag a small number of files onto the program icon, and it will convert these files for you, whilst retaining the originals.

To sum up, routes and objects are all saved using the '.csv' extension, but unfortunately, this program only works with object files and does not convert route files from 'rw' to 'csv'. This must be done manually. I've managed this successfully on several occassions and will provide instructions some time in the near future...

Note the 'B3d' and 'RW' formats are still compatible with the current version of BVE. Some developers just find the CSV format to be more flexible.

Object Mirror

Designed to mirror objects, i.e. change left facing objects to right facing objects. This is a drag-n-drop utility, similar to the B3D-CSV convertor. Works with both 'B3D' and 'CSV' formatted files.
