"West Highland Line and North Clydeside Electrics" - NEW Gallery Pics
Long time no update! I've been working on scenery for this and I've uploaded some screen shots of the route taken from the cab of the excellent 37416. You can find them in the image Gallery. Scroll to the bottom of the WHL gallery for the latest screen shots.

"West Highland Line and North Clydeside Electrics" - NEW Gallery Pics
Craig has completed the OHLE for the North Clydeside section, so this along with the fact that most of the trackwork is complete, all of the overbridges and most of the station buildings are finished and have been added, means we are getting there!
There are 6 new screenshots and they can be found in the image Gallery
Mind, very little of the actual terrain is complete, so there's a lot of ballast in those pics! Enjoy anyway! :)
Note the latest images have a red box to the left of them!
Class 57
I really am sorry, but I still haven't had time to do anything with this! This week, I hope! :(
| 5th July 2004 |
Time flies...
I'm sorry about the lack of information. Has it really been over four months since the last report?
Craig and myself were busy away from the PCs so I'm afraid that there hasn't been much progress made on the WHL project lately, but now Craig is working on it again and I hope I can get back into it soon. I'll post information when I have some to post.
I had to remove the 390 (Pendolino) from the "Work In Progress" section because I honestly can't finish this project, but I have asked someone else to have a go with it and I'll leave it up to them to announce the details.
Incidentally, if I get time this week, I'll upload the 57. I'm sorry about the delay with that. From now on, I'll try to resist posting details about projects until I can be sure that I'm going to be able to complete them! ;)
See you around, in less than four months, hopefully!

"West Highland Line and North Clydeside Electrics" - NEW Route Pics
I've added a few more screen shots to the "West Highland Line and North Clydeside Electrics" image Gallery These show some of the detail on Cowlairs Bank (around 1994) - This is the 1 in 45 incline out of Queen Street station.
Note the latest images have a red box to the left of them!
Enjoy! :o)

"West Highland Line and North Clydeside Electrics" Route Pics
I've added a new section to the image 'Gallery' showing some screen shots from a project that Craig Allan (www.northern-railways.co.uk) and myself are currently working on. The title gives it away really...
The line is currently a work in progress and as yet, only the track, signalling and OHLE is actually complete. However, a good deal of the station buildings and bridges have been built and added and work is underway on building and adding the scenery as well.
No expected release date can be given yet, but I will add information and images as work progresses.

Thunderbirds Are Go (almost!)
David White (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/zerosignal/bve/) has kindly given me permission to use the run sounds that he recorded for his excellent simulation of Class 37408. I just have a couple of other things to do (tweak performance, sort out permission for other sounds) and the train should be ready to download.
So I just need sounds for the Pendolino now! Any offers? :o)
For more info about these trains, visit the WIP page.
New BVE Object Creation Utility
For the object modellers amongst you and anyone wanting to get started, have a look at the brand new "Tools" section on David White's website. There you can download an excellent utility, written by David, that will convert objects created using the popular 3D modelling program, Milkshape 3D, into a format suitable for use in BVE.
For Milkshape, go
here: http://www.milkshape3d.com/
And for David's utility, visit: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/zerosignal/bve/ and follow the path to "Tools"
I recommend reading the documentation for both Milkshape 3D and David's utility, carefully! Once started in Milkshape though, you should find you get into the swing of things pretty quickly, and with this utility to hand, the difficulties that come with hand-coding objects should become a thing of the past for you. Hopefully! :o)

Steve Jones' Photo Galleries
I was sorry to hear that Steve Jones' website is no longer available to peruse. Steve undoubtedly maintained one of the finest collections of railway photos on the internet, and personally, I've spent ages just browsing through his extensive collection of high quality images.
As well as making the collection available to all to see for free, he was even kind enough to allow BVE developers to use photos from his collection as 'class photos' for their own trains, myself included (Class 156).
My thanks to him for providing lots of viewing pleasure, and good luck to him for the future!

New Stuff
Just some details regarding projects for this year. Three new trains are in the works: Classes 58, 60, and 390 "Pendolino", and I'm also hoping to get the Class 57 finished soon.
Feedback on the 57 has been very good, with regards to the engine sounds and panel, but I'm a bit stuck with the performance of the thing and I'm also having a hard time finding suitable run (track) sounds for it. I even tried to synthesise these, but the results were not very good. If you can help with either, please get in touch.
More details about the Class 57 and the Class 390 can be found on the WIP (work in progress) page, along with screen shots of the 58 and 60.

Just in case you haven't already heard...
David White released three new trains just after Christmas. The Class 37 (diesel-electric), MK3DVT (Driving Van Trailer) and Class 90 (AC Electric) can be downloaded from David's "BVE in Glasgow" website: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/zerosignal/bve/ (That Class 37 has to be heard to be believed, by the way! ;o)
Mark Milmine added scenery and more detail to his fine Drongan-Curstairs route. Version 2.0 is available and you can download it from Mark's "BVE In Scotland" website: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/m.milmine/Index.html
And finally, there's a new website based on the Scottish scene, this is George Drummond's "BVE In West Scotland": http://www.freewebs.com/bveinwestscotland
The End
Thanks for visiting the site. I hope you enjoyed your holidays. Happy new year! :o)

Sandymill to Invermay (Electric) Fixes
(How many times have I written that? Don't tell me!) ;o)
I've corrected a signalling problem with the routes, and now hopefully, that is all the bugs out of this project. If you find any more, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Guess what you have to do now! Here's a reminder: Download the route files from the Sandymill - Invermay "Electric" download page, install them to your BVE folder and overwrite the originals.
Thanks to Viktor for notifying me of this problem, and thanks to Simon Townsend for patiently testing a load of solutions! ;o)
Talking of Simon...

More Sandymill to Invermay (Electric) Fixes
I've corrected the AWS errors approaching Invermay in the Class 47 and HST 'Day' and 'Night' route files.
Get the files here: Sandymill - Invermay "Electric" All you have to do is download the route files (88 KB) from the Sandymill - Invermay "Electric" route page and install them to your BVE folder, overwriting the originals.
I apologise for the problems this caused!

More stuff to report...
Sandymill to Invermay (Electric) Fixed
On the Sandymill - Invermay (Electric) route page, you can download a replacement set of route files. It seems that there were problems with the timetable showing "0:00:00" and doors not opening/closing. The errors in the route files that were causing this have been corrected and now things should work okay!
It's been nearly four months since I uploaded the route to this site, and that's me just getting around to fixing those files. Thanks to everyone who reported this to me, I can only apologise for the problems this has caused!
For the updated route files, head to the 'Routes' section on this site, find the Sandymill Electric section, click on the appropriate link and take it from there! Alternatively, click here and it'll take you straight to the page! :)
Class 158 DMU News
I have removed the Class 158 DMU panel ugrade from the site because I'm pleased to report that a fully upgraded version of the train is now available from the BVE UK Train Collection website.
This is v2.0 and in addition to the newer cabs (day and night), the unit now features a brand new set of door and engine sounds recorded and arranged by John Owen (www.rwysnd.btinternet.co.uk), and brand new, excellent track (run) sounds recorded by David White (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/zerosignal/bve/). Finally, the unit is also fitted with the simulated AWS system developed by Nathan Whitington and Steve Green (www.trainsimcentral.co.uk).

Sandymill Electric Updated and Fixed
I would like to say thanks to several members of the community for pointing out some errors and problems with the route! In particular, a problem that caused the route not to work properly when loaded via the BRR program. This was not a fault of the program, rather a result of some sloppy coding on my part! Ahem, we'll say no more about that, eh? ;)
Anyway, I'm sure you'll be pleased to hear that all the issues raised have been addressed and sorted, and I am delighted to point you in the direction of the download page, where you can download the latest versions of the files: GET THEM HERE Note you should only need the files dated 'post 25th May'.
Thanks to everyone for their support! :)

New WIP Route for BVE
I'm delighted to announce a new route for BVE that is currently a work in progress. "Sandymill to Ashfield and Cardross" by Craig Allan (www.northern-railways.co.uk), is a 16 mile journey. You drive through familiar terrain on the electrified Sandymill to Balfearn line until you reach Greenhills, where the line branches off to Ashfield. Here the catenary ends, but the line continues on to Cardross with a superb mix of urban and rural scenery to enjoy along the way! :)
